After a late start & a $340 boat registration fee (what
IS up with that, Utah?!?) we're off!
First stop, Carbondale, CO to see Adam of Purple Star (and
so Henry could play with his pal, Nala)… found out Adam is not only passionate
about advocating for his fellow veterans, but a darn fine singer/guitarist/songwriter
as well!
A beautiful drive on highway 70 through the Rockies, and
past my beloved Denver (HI JODY & VAL!!), has us on the flats of Kansas and
a second stop at a Ramada in Hays, KS (AVOID at all costs…not Hays, but the
motel was, well, scary dirty at best!
Ah, roadtrips!)
After sleeping almost non-stop for the last 2 days, I’m
finally getting my umph back… and so has Henry… poor hard working puppy.  The weeks of planning, the move, dealing with
intensified symptoms and the fight to keep positive through this lengthy benefit
debacle has worn me thin.  Laying on a
bed in a camper, with people I adore driving and truly caring for all I need,
has allowed my mind to rest a bit.  For
that I’m grateful.
Third night, at a sweet RV/Camp in Mulberry Grove,
Illinois.  It where I’m writing from…inside
my tent… first night on my ‘journey’ with Henry hogging the bed and a full
tummy from Bernie’s pea soup…
So because I can’t seem to say it, think it, and act it out
enough… thank you everyone for helping me get on the road.  To my friends, to Leslie & Connie, to family
members, my dear-dear-dear UCC community, my therapist, my lawyer and to Marita
& Bernie for being my companions on this journey, THANK YOU.
Notes:
·         -Henry is taking on the role of ‘Fly Catcher’
quite seriously (beware flies who dare enter the camper).
·         -The purple trailer is holding up well.  Bernie designed a kayak rack that keeps the
boat safe and the bikes secure.  I love
looking at all the notes of support!
·         -The day we left, a little wiener dog wondered
into the house (pleasantly surprised my cousin Trevor) with no identification
other than a shock collar.   I left
wondering if Leslie and Connie now have a new dog… he’s darn cute… little
stubby legs.
·         -I want the energy Leslie & Marita have.
·         -Eastern Colorado and Kansas are still flat and
covered with corn.  I’ve traveled quite a
bit on this road, and I’m in awe of folks who make the plains their home.  I guess the way I need the mountains or to be
right next to water, they need to see open spaces and blue sky (which are
beautiful, too).
·         -I’m actually liking the growing humidity.  My wrinkles are starting to relax from the
extra moisture *wink-wink*
